User Research in the United Kingdom

Remote or lab-based user research in the United Kingdom, with real customers and local, Senior UX Researchers

The United Kingdom (UK) is UX24/7’s home market and we have our largest country team here. For any business thinking about organizing UX research or user research with their customers, we are perfectly equipped to help.

UX24/7 is a global design research agency that operates with our own team of Senior UX Researchers. All our Senior UX Researchers have been evaluated as part of their joining process to ensure they have the skills, capabilities and experience to deliver user research and UX research to the high standards we expect. The experience, skills and capabilities of our UK Team is second to none. It is also a large team which gives us the ability to support short notice requirements when they happen.

Remote and lab-based user research in the United Kingdom

We run user research and UX research in the UK using remote and lab-based facilities. Remote methodologies use online screen sharing technologies and in the UK we use Zoom, which is well known and used by most people. We therefore rarely have any issues getting people set up and into sessions on time.

For lab based testing we recognize that our customers don’t necessarily want to be tied to London. Although London is the capital city, other major cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Bristol are also popular choices for user research in the UK. We are set up to use facilities where our clients want the research to take place and have various advanced testing kits that work in the various different facility set ups we utilize.

In all case we provide a viewing experience that includes picture-in-picture video and where required, simultaneous translation into whatever your native language is. Recordings of the sessions are also provided with your local language as well as with the English original.

Finally, our Senior UX Researchers provide a detailed analysis from the session. Our deliverables include observations and issues together with analysis and actionable recommendations. Our team in the UK speak English and some a bi-lingual so we are able to deliver a playback session with in English and ins some other languages without the need for a translator.

So, what are you waiting for? If you want to conduct user research in the UK, we can help.

Our business has been working with UX24/7 for several years now, and with each new project the team continue to deliver clear, concise and most importantly actionable findings to help us drive our digital activities forwards.

UX Research and User Research in the United Kingdom (UK)

UK participants have a tendency to arrive early for sessions. Even so, there is usually one standby participant for every six recruited. This is to ensure sample size in the event of no shows and cancellations.

Most user research in the UK can be run during the working day or in the evenings. However, if sessions with children are undertaken these will need to be scheduled at the weekend with parental supervision.

Incentives for participants are generally paid in cash if user research in a lab facility. Online remote sessions normally involve an online payment by bank transfer. Vouchers are used but not as frequently as money.

UK research facilities generally provide a viewing screen at no extra cost. Some will even provide recordings at no charge.

UK participants don’t adhere to one personality type. You can get everybody from the brash and direct to the timid and reticent in a single sample. In the latter case, this could mean someone who has struggled with a task being too polite/reluctant to say so. Bear this is in mind when conducting research and be prepared to encourage openness and honesty.

The UK is a multicultural society, with many residents born in other countries. If looking to recruit UK born participants only, you should make this clear in the screener. London is particularly multi-cultural and not necessarily representative of the rest of the UK and in particular rural areas.
